FIFA FANFEST, Vivid, Macquarie Vision.

I’ve learned a lot about the world of futbol (ie. what are offsides, scoring, prevailing records, etc…). Fortunately, Sydney is among the few cities in the world hosting a FIFA Fanfest which is a venue set to stage massive parties where all Worldcup spectators can join together, watch the games, and root for their respective countries. Downside is that games begin at 9:00PM to as late as 4:30AM - but it doesn’t matter after a few bottles of alchy. Watching the USA v. Slovenia game was pretty exciting, but we left after the second half when Slovenia was winning 2:0, but USA caught up ending it at a draw.

The pictures above are from the Vivid light and Macquarie Vision show, a light art exhibition with shows scattered around the city, beginning at St. Mary’s Cathedral and ending at the Sydney Opera House. They were all beautiful, inspiring, and refreshing. Nothing I’ve ever seen before at such a grand scale. But it doesn’t beat the Symphony Orchestra at Melbourne with eargasmic performances by contemporary musical talents.

My favorite quote projected on the Opera house read: “Dead stars, their light still trapped in time.” I learned that the light radiated by stars take CENTURIES to reach Earth. So the stars we see in the night sky may be residual light from dead stars, whose journey through time has ended. Or maybe it hasn’t ended because the universe is infinite so the light particles must still be existing. To keep it general: we are experiencing a part of their journey through time. It’s like souls walking through purgatory, left neither dead nor alive, cursed to an endless voyage.

Anyway, LAST DAY IN SYDNEY! I’m excited because Kat and I have booked our flights between each country. Congrats to Kat for winning at Cache Creek! and Congrats to Kate for getting into Berkeley Law! whattup!

MARK,

Thank you. I really appreciate this. It’s weird how you’re talking about souls because I recently got obsessed with watching past episodes of Ghost Whisperer. LOL. But for real, I never told this to anyone, but I lost my aunt that I was close to just a few weeks ago. Sometimes I think that she did this one last favor for me before her soul left - help me get into law school. It sounds really crazy and never in a million years would I ever have predicted that those words would come out of my mouth. But I’d like to believe that all the people we’ve lost still leave traces and those traces give me an extra zest or spark of life.

Anyway, nice way to end a page in your life. You’re about to start another one in SEA and I’m so jealous! LOL, I was supposed to be with you and Kat, and I wish I was still! But I am about to start a journey of my own and I am also excited and scared so I will be using the rest of my vacation time to get prepared. Be safe! Be happy! Be open! Be free! Just be! Haha. Take care!

I went camping this past week over in Big Sur. It was great to leave LA’s glowing nights for a week and actually see stars. My friends and I even night hiked up a hill and watch the moon change from white to red, slowly sinking into the Pacific. But your deep interpretation of the night sky only adds to the enjoyment of stargazing. In other words, you’re cool and let’s go camping when you return.

And congrats again, Kate!
