I wake up in the morning feeling like…reading the news. I stumbled upon this interview clip.
**If you can, check out the clip before reading on, its only several seconds.**
My instant morning reaction was, “Wow, what a cocky athlete.” But then it sunk in, and I kinda agreed with Sven. Why would you treat someone who had just won the Olympic gold medal in speed skating (right before your eyes) as someone you didn’t notice just do something amazing? And in a way, I’m being totally serious about this. This thought struck me, because it reminded me of how this superior American imperialistic image can give the backhand to other cultures. Like how Anthropologists studied “exotic cultures” or Taft trying to “cleanse” his little brown brothers. I don’t care if it’s professionalism, it’s degrading.
Yeah, Sven will probably exponentially more famous around the world, but c’mon NBC, be a little more socially-conscious.
